Project 1: 1970s Ranch Home in Katy — Galvanized to PEX

The problem: The homeowners had lived with gradually declining water pressure for years. Showers had become weak, and running the dishwasher while someone showered reduced flow to a trickle. The home still had its original galvanized steel pipes from 1974.

What we found: When we opened the walls and cut into the old galvanized pipes, the interior was almost completely choked with rust and mineral scale. Pipes that originally had a three-quarter-inch interior diameter had less than a quarter inch of open space remaining.
